Biography

Ally was born and raised in Cape May, New Jersey. She is pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering with a minor in Robotics at Princeton University. Her interest in aerospace engineering began when she attended the AAUW's Tech Trek camp at Stockton University and was introduced to the fundamentals of flight through various aviation-related design challenges. Building on this passion, Ally has since worked on mechanical design projects with the Princeton University Robotics Club and gained internship experience with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Outside of academics, Ally enjoys building LEGO sets, watching the Eagles during football season, practicing taekwondo with Princeton Club Taekwondo, and reading in her spare time.

Research

Ally is working with graduate student Hannah Wiswell to research how albatross-inspired elbow joints can be incorporated into the wing morphology of commercial aircraft, with the goal of enhancing aerodynamic efficiency during ground effect. She will create CAD models of half-span wings with varying angles of rotation to simulate the stretching and locking mechanisms of an albatross' wing. She will then 3D print these models and run a wind tunnel campaign using a ground effect rig to test the aerodynamic efficiency of this bioinspired wing morphology as applied to commercial aircraft.
